AI upscalling. Cf. other images of this map, eg. File:FraMauroDetailedMap.jpg and the image talk page. Ankry (talk) 03:31, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete, this image is not really helpful in any context given we have a proper, non AI-mangled image. Snowolf How can I help? 04:26, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
KeepThis is a point of view related to the scale of the definition; the image is useful and used. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:30, 1 December 2024 (UTC)- Info Used is not a problem as we have a better quality replacement that is readable unlike this one. However, I would appreciate opinion of users why they prefer the lower quality AI-altered image over higher quality real one. Ankry (talk) 12:58, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Speedy keep COM:INUSE is certainly a problem. Replace all the uses of the file if you like and then come back. You may think a few Commons users should overrule decisions on dozens of Wikipedias, but I'm here to say that COM:INUSE exists to prevent that, outside of issues like copyright that have to supersede use. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:07, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- It is not a problem. The deleting admin may create a redirect to a better version of the image untill all usage is replaced. Ankry (talk) 19:53, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- And while I didn't check all usage, I checked about 5-7 and saw that in all those cases the original image, File:FraMauroDetailedMap.jpg until it was replaced with the one being discussed, so we could restore that one I would think. Snowolf How can I help? 20:04, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Go ahead. I object to deletion per COM:INUSE as long as this image is in use. If it's not in use, I don't care. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:44, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete, the AI "upscaling" rendered most of the text on the map virtually unreadable. Look no further than the top-right quadrant, where the text under ETHYOPIA AVSTRAL: Ethyopia quasi deserta e montuosa, has been disfigured into an illegible smudge. SOLTANIA has somehow become SOLINNCIA. Who is this image useful for? Hythonia (talk) 13:49, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete This image is really blurry in many places (eg. Balanga region). The original is much more useful and this one only pretends to be useful. Fra'Mauro was definitely more talented than today's AI. Msz2001 (talk) 13:50, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. The upscaling on this image is atrocious - how did this ever get selected as a valued image? The set of concentric circles (representing celestial spheres) at the upper left is a great example - each circle is supposed to be labeled, but the upscaling has removed most of the text and mangled the rest. Omphalographer (talk) 20:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- CommentI think the result is not good. The image can be erased. But the tool is interesting, you should not be afraid of it.... --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 07:26, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- AI is certainly a valuable tool, but concern over applying it to historical maps and charts is warranted. These high-resolution reproductions are often used by researchers, and AI tools - even good ones - can easily remove small but critical details. Julesvernex2 (talk) 20:20, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep as long is in use. --Krd 06:42, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. As per Omphalographer, dreadful quality of text. No Swan So Fine (talk) 16:21, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per Msz2001 and Omphalographer. Thibaut (talk) 18:48, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep With AI templat --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 10:10, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete with no COM:EDUSE as a representation of this map. Commons shouldn't offer a high-resolution zoomable image of a historical map which turns out to have blurred and faked and missing details when the viewer looks closely at it. Belbury (talk) 10:19, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Kept: COM:INUSE unfortunately. --Abzeronow (talk) 19:28, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
